Rescue workers have brought
a woman and her 3-year-old son to safety
after they were trapped momentarily in
their car after water flooded the
intersection of North Seton Avenue and
Provincial Parkway in
Emmitsburg this morning.
According to Lt. Chris
Ryder of Vigilant Hose Company, rescue
officials arrived at the scene at about
9:10 a.m. to help the woman and her son.
The woman had stopped
the car in about a foot, to a foot-and-a
half of water that had risen to the bottom
of the car door, Ryder said.
Water covered the
intersection in every direction, he said.
Ryder was manning a
tower that extended a rescue worker over
the woman’s car.
With a rope fastened to
him, the rescuer laid on the car and
lifted the boy to safety, Ryder said.
A fire official fastened
by a rope tie then walked the woman to
safety, he said.
Both the woman and the
boy looked fine, if a bit upset, and
didn’t have any injuries, Ryder said.
Rescue workers with the
Vigilant Hose Company also helped a mother
and daughter trapped in flood waters at
about 6:30 a.m. on Motters Station Road,
Ryder said. No injuries were reported. |
